Launching of KSRTC’s 23 New Airavat Club Class Buses & Release of last 4 years Achievement Book of Transport Department  by  Sri.Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Karnataka, on 13.09.2017, 10.00 am at Grand Steps  Vidhana Soudha. During the event, , Sri.H.M.Revanna, Hon’ble Transport Minister, Sri. Ramalinga Reddy, Hon’ble Home Minister, Sri. K. Gopala Poojary, Hon’ble MLA and Chairman, KSRTC , Vice Chairman KSRTC, Board of Directors of KSRTC, Sri. Subhash Chandra Kuntia IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt.of Karnataka , Dr.B.Basavaraju,IAS Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Sri. S.R. Umashankar, IAS, Managing Director, KSRTC and other dignitaries were present during the occasion.

Salient features of Volvo BS IV Vehicles :-

  • KSRTC is introducing for first time, 14.5 ( 51 seater ) & 13.8 mts (47 seater )length vehicles with better legroom facility for passengers travelling long distance. At present Airavat Club Class buses is having 47 seats.

  • These vehicles are fitted with latest BS-4 Engine with an electronically controlled unit.

  • These vehicle has got both manual and intelligent automated gear shift changing system.

  • This vehicle has a steerable rear wheel axle for better smaller turning radius and to negotiate sharp curves. Also gives better riding comfort.

  • The electronically controlled suspension system provides very high level of comfort for travelling passengers.

  • Fitted with ABS (Anti braking system) and is controlled electronically.

  • The Engine power is upgraded to 410 Hp in case of 14.5 mts chassis and 370 Hp in case of 13.8 mts which offers broad torque range as well as low fuel consumption and long service life.

  • These vehicles meet the Government AIS 52 Bus body specifications with stringent safety norms.

  • 3 LCDS fitted, there is no change in fare and the cost of the bus is Rs. 1crore 8 lakhs per bus

Under the able leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri. Siddaramaiah, many pro-people development projects have been implemented in the last four years and four months period, which have become hugely popular and successful. The lifeline of people – transport sector in particular has seen great reforms and all the four transport corporations have implemented many firsts of the innovative initiatives and emerged as the leading state transport undertakings in the country.  During the past four years and four months, these four Transport Corporations have crossed the “Double Century” (201) mark in bagging the prestigious National and International Awards.

Further, Transport is considered as one of the fundamental facility in the country. for the first time, the Government has granted Rs. 153 cores in 2016-17 for BMTC to repay interest  for 1000 buses, in 2017-18 the highest grants of  Rs. 788 cores for reimbursement of pass amount for all the four transport Corporations, in 2017-18 grants for procuring 1500 buses, free land for constructing bus stations and depots throughout the state,  free bus passes for SC/ST students, Hon’ble Chief Minister has been extending his continuous support for implementing several revolutionary programmers in transport sector.

  • KSRTC has carved a unique niche for itself in transport industry and has emerged as one of the best transport corporations in the country, by providing the best transport facilities to the commuters. During the period under report, the Corporation introduced various types of buses like Volvo Club Class, Volvo Multi Axle , Airavatha Diamond Class (Scania) and Rajahamsa and 3071 new vehicles, thus, taking fleet strength to 8389 vehicles and earning an approximate revenue of Rs12523.91 crore.

  • Glimpse of 4 Years Milestones 76 New Bus Stations, 40 New Bus Depot operating 653 city bus services in 36 cities. Daily 1.5 Crore passengers availing service, 7333 New Buses, under 371 J 3475 Recruitment, 24471 Recruitments done.


  • Induction of New Buses:  7333 buses have been introduced by the 4 corporations in  past 4 years and 4 months.


  • Recruitment: The four transport corporations have appointed a total of   24,471 personnel in the last four years 4 months, Under Article 371J, 3,475 personnel have been appointed.


  • KSRTC will introduce shortly RO water plants in major bus stations of Mandya, Davangere, Mangalore, Puttur, Shimoga Divisions & in main Taluk for the commuters of all classes at a cost of Rs.1 per one liter.


  • Commissioning of new divisions: On 29.6.2017 Long pending Shimoga new division has been commissioned and Chitradurga division will be commissioned soon.


  • Free land for construction of bus stands/depots: KSRTC is constructing bus stands, bus depots and buildings and other key infrastructure facilities for the use of commuters. In order to meet the basic a needs, suitable land is essential for the corporation. So far, land was being purchased based on acquisition process through Govt. or in case of private lands, as per the market value of land and by making 50% payment if the land belongs to the Government. Now, the Government is providing land free of cost.


  • Free bus pass for SC/ST students: As part of the social responsibility, all the four transport corporations are issuing concessional bus passes to the SC/ST students. The government is bearing 50% of this expenditure. The students and the transport corporations are bearing 25% each respectively.

In 2017-18, the transport corporations have planned to issue 18,35,345    Concessional  bus passes. Out of which, about 24.15% of the passes will be issued to SC/ST students (4,43,262).

In the current financial year, Rs.208.76 crore has been earmarked in the                   budget under SCP & TSP program to reimburse 50% of the cost of concessional bus passes of SC/ST students. In addition to this, The government will also bear 25% of the Cost of concessional bus passes of SC/ST students, amounts to Rs 104.38 crore.

  • Inter-corporation transfers: The inter-corporation transfer of employees among the all four transport corporations, which was pending for last 12 years and was much awaited by the employees, has been implemented successfully. As much as 18918978 applications have been received from drivers/conductors, technical staff and other administrative staff. Out of which 14,604 applicants were found to be eligible for one-time transfer. Among these 3,718 applications were considered on the basis of seniority and provisional list of transfers has been published.

  • Highest grants for distribution of concessional bus passes: During 2012-13, the government has repaid Rs 425.92 crore towards re-imbursent of grants. But the government has paid Rs 788 crore to the transport corporations in 2016-17.

  • Karnataka has the distinction of operating city bus services in small, medium towns and cities. City buses are being successfully running in 36 small, medium towns.


Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation: City buses are in operation in the cities of Hassan, Shimoga, Bhadravathi, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Tumkuru, Davanagere, Mangaluru, Udupi, Kolar, KGF, Chitradurga and Mandya

  • Orders have been issued for distribution of Officers and Supervisory staff among the four corporations and also to delegate the Cadre Controlling Authority.

  • Fast tag and Wi-fi Facilities: In all major bus stands in KSRTC, BMTC, NEKRTC, NWRTC, free Wi-fi Facilities are being  installed. In all our busses fast tags are implemented on experimental basis.


  • Achievements & Awards : From May 2013 to August 2017, 209 Awards Received by KSRTC. During 1998 to 2017 all the four Corporations received 349 Awards in total KSRTC in last 4 years 4 months received 142 awards.

  1. KSRTC The only transport organization in the Country that had own “AWARD OF EXCELLENCE” for the 6th time in row, conferred by Ministry of Urban Development, Govt.of India.

  1. KSRTC-The prestigious “ NATIONAL e- GOVERNANCE” Gold award by Govt, of India the highest IT honour  of the country

KSRTC  is the only one organization received “ INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT AWARD” (UITP) for the 4th year in Succession
