The Bengaluru-born racer will drive the BMW M4 for team 3Y Technology

Bengaluru, April 4, 2018: Akhil Rabindra, the Bengaluru-born racer studying in University of Edinburgh, Scotland, has announced that for the season 2018 he will team up with French Team 3Y Technology to drive in the prestigious GT4 European Series in BMW M4 GT4 Car in the silver class along side the experienced Belgian driver Stephene Lemeret.

Akhil makes a switch from British GT, where he was driving the Garage 59′s McLaren 570S as a McLaren GT Academy driver in the British GT Championship. Making the announcement, Akhil said, “It will be exciting to race with such a large and competitive grid on some of the greatest tracks across Europe. I look forward to my season this year with some great results.”

Team manager Guillame Maillard, added, “I am extremely happy with the driver pairings for the GT4 European series. We have a good mix between young up-coming talent and experience. We expect great things from Akhil Rabindra and Stephane Lemeret in the Silver Cup”. Further, he said, “We will aim for podium finishes every race. The GT4 European Series is the toughest GT4 championship in the world so the task will not be easy”.

The 2018 season marks the first time the BMWs will be used in the championship, which already has a strong manufacturer list comprising of Mercedes, Porsche, McLaren, Aston Martin, Audi, KTM, Chevrolet, Maserati and Ginetta.

This will be Akhil’s second full-season in a GT series after making a switch from single-seater racing last year with McLaren. He tested the new 3Y Technology’s BMW M4 GT4 car in Barcelona few weeks back, before taking his decision.

About Akhil Rabindra:

Akhil Rabindra was signed by the Garage 59 team to race in the 2017 British GT championship. Born in Bengaluru, Akhil was enrolled into the FIA institute Young Driver Academy in 2014 and has enjoyed two successful years in the British GT supporting series; racing in the BRDC F4 and British Formula 3 championships.

Akhil started racing at the age of 14 with Go-Karting and has mainly concentrated on Formula cars, and switched over to sports cars, outlining his plans to become a professional GT driver.
