Proceeds from the sale of the city’s largest cake will be donated for the treatment of children battling cancer


Bengaluru, 9th August 2019 – After successful three years, Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru will commemorate the nation’s 73rd Independence Day by baking an ensemble of cakes weighing a total of 73 kilograms.  This masterpiece made of an assortment of Independence Day themed cakes shall adorn the lobby of the hotel.

The hotel is once again all set for its annual cause on its fourth year, ready to take its humanitarian celebration a notch higher.  As part of the celebrations, the hotel will make the cakes available for sale to visiting guests and patrons.

The entire proceeds from the sale will be donated to Iksha foundation, which works for the welfare of children suffering from retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer.  Additionally, guests can avail 20 per cent discount on food and soft beverage at the hotel by presenting the receipt of their cake purchase.

“This initiative is very close to Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru, and we are putting our best foot forward to maximise the impact of this event, which will give underprivileged children diagnosed with eye cancer independence from their suffering.  We will also be visiting the hospital where the afflicted children are undergoing treatment to raise awareness amongst our colleagues”, said Rakesh Sethi resident manager.

The annual activity began in 2016, when a 70-ft-long cake was baked and sold.  The proceeds from the sale were donated to iksha foundation, which helped get one child treated and cured of blindness resulting from eye cancer.  The hotel held similar activities in 2017 and 2018, generating more aid and treating five more children.

Through these activities, the hotel helped treat six children over the past three years and intends to continue doing so.  Baking for a cause has clearly emerged as an annual tradition at Shangri‑La Hotel, Bengaluru.
