Aashraya support group to focus on rehabilitation of the visually disabled.

Bengaluru: In an effort to create awareness on the need for advocacy for individuals with special needs, Aashraya, a unique voluntary platform, the brainchild of Dr. K. Bhujang Shetty,Chairman and Managing Director of Narayana Nethralaya, in association with the Government of Karnataka is organizing a special workshop on 6th December 2019 between 9.30 am to 1.30 pm at Narayana Nethralaya in Bengaluru to spread the message on the need for protecting and promoting the rights of people with disability.

Aashraya aims to help patients communicate with people having similar problems, so that they can develop an understanding of the situation and know what to expect. Its other objectives include vision rehabilitation to help in maximizing the usable vision; provide parents with educational advice for their children and try to fit them in appropriate schools; provide knowledge of the Government available schemes for the visually disabled and try to provide financial aid for surgeries/rehabilitation.

This time which is the 9th meeting of Aashraya has a theme for this workshop and the theme is ‘Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda’. K Leelavathi, IAS, Director, Dept of Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, Government of Karnataka is participating in this workshop as a Government of Karnataka representative.
