Bengaluru, December 30, 2019: Goals for Girls will be hosting its 6th annual Goals for Girls Leadership Summit in Bengaluru from January 1st through 4th, 2020 at FSV Arena (Hennur – Bagalur Road, Chagalatti Village, Jala Hobli, Bengaluru). The Leadership Summit is in partnership with PASS Collective, Anglian Medal Hunt and FSV Arena.

“Goals for Girls has been doing tremendous work to bring girls together to develop their Leadership skills to make powerful women to lead our society. I was fortunate enough to be part of the program for the last few years. I have enjoyed learning, exploring and experiencing girl power through this program.” – Anju Turambekar (Technical Director, Dempo Sports Club & AFC Grassroots Panel Member)

This Leadership Summit will include nearly 120 coaches and girl children from across India, including the following 12 partner Sport for Development organizations from 6 states and 8 cities: CEQUIN, Dreaming in a Slum, Foot & Boot, Izad, Khel Khel Mein Foundation, Mera India Mera Adhikar, Naz Foundation, Oscar Foundation, Shining Stars Football Club, Slum Soccer, Yuwa and Zinc Football! A delegation of 9 USA youth and coaches will be traveling from the states of California, North Carolina and Utah.

The Goals for Girls Leadership Summit unites grassroots football programs to collaborate, network and learn from one another through the beautiful game of football! The Summit is an incubation platform that educates girls how to be more impactful leaders in their organizations and communities. The sessions at the Summit include field and classroom based activities focused on leadership themes such as awareness, teamwork, communication and goal setting. Throughout the Summit, various cross-cultural exchanges occur between girls from various geographies, ages, religions and backgrounds that amplifies the beauty of bonding through a team sport.

“G4G changes lives, changes communities and creates leaders. Every girl, everywhere should be involved in our program and summits. It redefines, renews and refreshes your outlook on life.” – Lola Ogunbote, Summit Trainer and Football Coach

A key takeaway of the Goals for Girls Leadership Summit are “We are the Change” Projects! “We Are the Change” projects are girl-led initiatives that address challenges in marginalized pockets across India. Project ideation and storyboarding with all participating teams take place during the Summit post which an action plan is implemented. Examples of last year’s Change projects include a mother’s club to uplift single mothers, speaking to the government about public ground usage for girl children to educating community members about the wrongs in child marriage.

Looking ahead, India will be hosting and competing in the 7th edition of the U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup (WWC) in 2020. Goals for Girls is excited to kick off the new year.

“This is the first time the India Women’s National Team will be competing in the FIFA WCC. While India gears up for a monumental world event, there are many girls across the country who are representing the first and second generations of footballers ever to exist in their communities. Despite challenging socioeconomic circumstances, these girls are rising as leader’s day by day, step by step. Goals for Girls is a platform that unites these aspiring young women to rise and most importantly together.” – Shaona Sen, PASS Collective Co-Founder, G4G India Program Director.
